Guest Column

We’ve reached out to our metal and hard rock brethren across the land, asking that they contribute prose to our recent series of guest columns. We ran a recent series on Five Albums That Will Change You, and the response was overwhelming.

The new topic is Three Bands You May Not Know About But Should, and we asked that each guest writer jot down a brief description of what makes each band worthy of our attention. Today, we are excited to continue this ongoing series with an entry written by the members of Jungle Rot, who have a new album in stores now.

Antediluvian
These Canadians have been at it since 2006 putting out some of the creepiest bestial death metal in some time. The band released multiple demos and EPs before finally putting out 2011’s Through The Cervix Of Hawaah which was one of my favorite albums of that year. Looking forward to the upcoming release λόγος this year!! One of my favorite bands at the moment.

Weekend Nachos
Whatever you may think of this bands name, don’t be fooled. This one pissed off group! Within their songs the band can flawlessly transition from brutal powerviolence to doom-paced, sludge riffs. Very dynamic and ultra violent. I find myself listening to this more than I probably should. This shit will get you pissed.

Yurei
I am a huge Ved Buens Ende fan. That band was an entity all its own before they disbanded, NO ONE sounded like them. There are a few bands popping up these days now that do sound like them, some of which actually try and DUPLICATE their sound. A few members of VBE went on to form Virus which was close but held its own identity. Yurei comes from this school. I believe the sole musician is one guy who is actually in Virus now probably since he has such a grasp of this style. Yurei’s latest album Night Vision gets further away from the sound, but not from the style. Weird and eclectic, but very compelling.
